Squash arrived in India as a colonial-era pastime, confined for generations to cantonments and private clubs and largely invisible outside them. It took the formation of a national federation, and years of sustained effort thereafter, to bring the sport into the competitive mainstream — a journey that culminated in India's landmark double-gold performance at the 2014 Commonwealth and Asian Games.

Squash in Madhya Pradesh has grown steadily over the past decade, supported by a small but committed network of courts, coaches, and clubs across cities including [Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior — confirm active centres]. The state has produced players who have gone on to compete at national ranking tournaments and represent Madhya Pradesh in team championships.

MPSRA's current focus areas for growing the sport in the state include:

  • • Infrastructure — Working with district bodies and institutions to add and upgrade squash courts across the state
  • • Coaching — Building a certified coaching pipeline to support players from beginner to competitive level
  • • School & College Outreach — Introducing squash in schools and colleges to widen the base of young players
  • • Competitive Calendar — Running a consistent annual calendar of ranking tournaments so players get regular competitive exposure
